Disclaimer & Appropriate Use
PlainWater is an independent, informational resource that republishes and analyzes public EPA drinking-water data. Drinking-water safety is a health-related topic, so please read how to use this site responsibly.
Not a real-time safety advisory
The violation records shown here are EPA's cumulative compliance history for each public water system. A recorded violation may be years old, already resolved, or a monitoring/reporting lapse rather than a contamination event. The presence or absence of a violation on this site is not a current statement that your water is safe or unsafe. For the live status of your water — including any active boil-water notice or do-not-drink order — contact your water utility or read your most recent Consumer Confidence Report.
Not medical or professional advice
Nothing on PlainWater is medical, legal, or engineering advice. Decisions about water treatment, filtration, or health should be made with a qualified professional and, where relevant, certified laboratory testing of your own tap. If you rely on a private well, your water is not regulated by EPA and is not covered by this dataset.
Data accuracy & limitations
We reproduce EPA's published figures and clearly label what we derive. The federal data has gaps — not every system is tested for every contaminant, and PFAS sampling under UCMR5 covers a subset of systems. We show those gaps rather than fill them. See our methodology and editorial policy for details, and report any error.
